ACCBCF and NUJ Media Partnership Meeting in Abuja

The Africa China Chairmen of Business Council Forum (ACCBCF) and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) are exploring stronger cooperation to promote professional journalism, improve media engagement and strengthen understanding between Nigeria, Africa and China.

The discussions took place during a visit by High Chief Mike Yousuf Ugwu (Zheng Xiaopeng), National Chairman ACCBCFand CEO/Publisher ACN , to the NUJ National Secretariat in Jahi, Abuja, where he met with NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi.

The meeting focused on developing stronger institutional cooperation between ACCBCF and NUJ, while creating opportunities for journalist exchanges, professional training, joint reporting and greater media participation in Nigeria-China business and investment activities.

Media as a Bridge

High Chief Mike Ugwu said the media has an important role to play in strengthening mutual understanding between Africa and China.

He explained that ACCBCF, alongside its media platform, Africa China News (ACN), is committed to promoting information exchange, cultural understanding and closer people-to-people relations between Africa and China.

He said stronger cooperation with Nigerian media organisations would help provide greater visibility for stories on trade, investment, tourism, culture, development and Africa-China relations.

High Chief Mike Ugwu also briefed the NUJ leadership on ACCBCF's role in connecting governments, businesses, investors and other stakeholders across Africa and China to promote investment, industrial cooperation, project development and trade.

NUJ Welcomes Cooperation

Responding, NUJ National President Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi welcomed the initiative and noted that 2026 marks 55 years of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and China.

He said the media remains important in strengthening mutual understanding and supporting the development of bilateral relations.

Comr. Alhassan Abdullahi expressed the NUJ's readiness to strengthen cooperation with ACCBCF, ACN and other Chinese media institutions through journalism, professional exchanges, training and capacity development.

Areas of Cooperation

The two sides discussed several areas of possible cooperation, including a strategic partnership between ACCBCF and NUJ, journalist exchange programmes, professional training and joint reporting.

They also explored the establishment of a Nigeria-China Media Dialogue or Forum that could bring together media leaders, government representatives, business executives and other stakeholders from Nigeria and China.

The discussions further covered greater media participation in ACCBCF business forums, investment summits and Nigeria-China economic cooperation events.

Both sides also considered the possibility of developing a Memorandum of Understanding involving ACCBCF, NUJ and ACN to provide a structured framework for long-term cooperation.

The proposed framework could cover journalist exchanges, joint reporting, professional training, media dialogues and other collaborative programmes.

Both organisations expressed their commitment to using professional and responsible journalism to promote better understanding between Nigeria, Africa and China, while strengthening people-to-people ties and supporting broader economic and business cooperation.
